Title: PhantomSDR Plus on Synology NAS
Post by: HB9RYZ on Sep 28, 2024, 10:01 AM
Hi All
I installed Ubuntu 20.04 with the Virtual Machine on my big Synology RS815+ NAS.

The RX888 MKI will be recognized on the USB-Port (3.0) of the Synology NAS but I can't start the PhantomSDR Plus.

The USB port of the Synology NAS does not give engough power to run the RX888 and will crash.

It was test and the summry is: PhantomSDR Plus with RX888 does not run on a Synology NAS.

Use a external usb hub and it may work

It will not work as the Synology has Intel Atom C2538 as CPU.

That CPU is nowhere near the power you need to run the RX888 let alone in a virtual machine.

I have tested the J5050 CPU, far more powerfull and it wasn't able to cope either.

You really need OpenCL on a fast Intel, else it will stutter.

Without OpenCL a Ryzen5 is fast enough to handle it.

It will probably handle an RTL-stick or so, but I wouldn't expect too much.

To give you an idea of the speed difference between the I5-6500T that can handle it and your RS815+ CPU.

And that benchmark doesn't even include OpenCL on the GPU.

Sorry mate.
